Benefits of School Travel Plans

An increasing number of schools in South East Wales are working on or implementing a School Travel Plan..

A School Travel Plan will set out aims and a package of measures to promote sustainable travel choices for pupils, parents, staff and visitors.

School Travel Plans can:

• help to make the school more accessible in a safe, healthy and sustainable way
• reduce traffic congestion and pollution near and around the school
• provide opportunities for sustainable travel to be built into the curriculum.
•  help schools gain Eco-School and Healthy School status
• improve road user and travel awareness skills for children whilst giving them increased confidence and independence
• provide possible access to grant funding
