Not directly in the city centre?

Over short distances cycling is often quicker and more cost-effective than car use and avoids the problem of traffic congestion. It is possible to cycle 3 miles in 20 minutes. Cycling also helps protect against health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

Getting started is easy - use the Sustrans Cymru website to locate on and off road tracks near your workplace. Try Cyclestreets for route planning although treat with care as some parts of the site are in development.

Get Cycling have produced a practical to guide to get you cycling which you can read here

Cardiff Council operate a cost-effective bike hire scheme - click here for more details. Newport City Council has some 200 bikes available for hire from Newport International Sports Village - find out more here  Alternatively employers can help staff buy a discounted bike through a Salary Sacrifice Scheme saving around 40% on the purchase price of a new bike (cost-free to the organisation). HMRC has recently issued clarification on the final purchase price which you should read and ensure you understand; read more here Click here for companies that can help you set up a scheme.

Cycling Can Also Make Sound Business Sense

Increasing the number of cyclists decreases the number of car park spaces, congestion and pollution. It also boosts staff health and helps reduce the impact of traffic on the environment. Promoting active travel can also help an organisation to meet the Corporate Health Standard, and other carbon reduction and corporate social responsibility targets.

Free support is available to organisations in South East Wales that want to encourage staff to walk or cycle.
