Public Transport and a Travel Plan
Easy ways
Public transport often isn't considered because people aren't aware of the options - make sure staff know about the public transport options to their work site.
Consider the routes to bus stops and stations.
- Are site entrances conveniently located?
- Is the route well lit and maintained?
- Is there a bus shelter?
Work with your local authority and the public transport provider to improve facilities.
Put a link on your intranet or website to Traveline Cymru to make it easy for employees and visitors to get information.
Encourage visitors to use public transport by making it the first option on your "How to find us" page and installing Traveline Cymru's Page Lander Wizard.
Have up-to-date timetables available - click here for a list of public transport operators in South East Wales.
When planning meetings think about how participants will access the venue - is there a public transport option available? If not, should the venue be changed?
Incentives and improvements
Is it possible to provide loans (maybe even interest free) to your employees to purchase annual season tickets?
Can a Salary Sacrifice Scheme be introduced for annual season bus ticket purchase?
Would a direct bus between the station and your site encourage more public transport use?
Talk to the lcoal public transport provider - it might be possible to work with other local organisations to fund a shuttle bus.
It could be possible to work with the local authority to provide a good walking route?
