News - Cycle Challenge in Wales
2nd August 2011
Cardiff Council, CTC Challenge for Change and Environment Wales are excited to unveil the Cycle Challenge in Wales
The Cardiff Cycle Challenge is a fun, free competition to encourage people to remember the joys and benefits of riding a bike. It's all about participation (not miles).
Which organisation or department can get the most members of staff cycling over the 3 week competition?
Organisations and their departments will compete across six size categories to see who can get the most members of staff to ride a bike for at least 10 minutes from Monday 12 September to Sunday 2 October 2011.
Participants can cycle wherever they feel comfortable and at any time - on an evening or at the weekend, to work or for leisure. They then log their trips at www.CardiffCycleChallenge.org.uk, compete, compare results and win prizes.
The Challenge will give people the opportunity to experience the benefits of cycling firsthand. In 2010/11 Cardiff Council spent £1 million on cycling improvements with the aim of making Cardiff one of the most cyclist friendly cities in the UK. The Cardiff Cycle Challenge will encourage more people to take advantage of these improvements and have more confidence cycling.
- Regular cyclists have the improved overall fitness of someone up to 10 years younger and can live up to 2 years longer.
- 40 per cent of car journeys in Wales are under two miles which equates to a 10 minute bike ride.
Get cycling with your workmates and win! The Cardiff Cycle Challenge is fun, free and the perfect excuse to dust off your bike. Whether you’re a regular rider or haven’t cycled for years - simply cycle for a minimum of 10 minutes to enter. Register at - www.cardiffcyclechallenge.org.uk
