News - Free bus travel for Torfaen young people

30th July 2010

Young people 11 - 16 years of age in Blaenavon and Abersychan can enjoy free bus transport throughout the summer holidays.

The scheme, which runs until the end of the school holidays and is funded by Torfaen council, allows young people living in these wards to enjoy free bus travel to leisure facilities throughout the borough.

Any young person who is a library member can collect their free voucher from Blaenavon Library or the 'Doorway'. A parental consent form must be completed and presented before the first voucher is issued.

The executive member for children and young people, councillor Mary Barnett, said: "The scheme is easy to use. Once they have a Tor-bus voucher from Blaenavon Library or the Doorway, the participants simply hand it to the driver of any Stagecoach bus in exchange for a return ticket.

"They can then travel free-of-charge to anywhere in Torfaen to enjoy leisure facilities and relax with their friends.

"This is an exciting opportunity for young people to get out and about this summer. With plenty going on around Torfaen during the school holidays, this collaboration with Stagecoach means young people living in the north of the borough have no excuse not to get involved."

Vouchers are limited and are available on a first-come first-served basis. For more information, contact 01495 766057 or 01495 791637.
