News - Planet Health Cymru - Planning for the physical activity agenda

4th February 2011

A seminar at The Priory Centre, Abergavenny, Wednesday 23 February

  •  Are you a health professional in south east Wales who wants to engage with transport and regeneration professionals on how the environment can be used to tackle sedentary lifestyles?
  • Are you an architect, planner, planning committee member, developer, transport planner, Health Board building programme managers and infrastructure designers, 21st Century Schools designers?
  • Are you involved in the design of public open space?
  • Do your plans fully encourage and prioritise Active Travel i.e. walking and cycling?
  • Would you appreciate sharing a stimulating and positive approach to problem solving?

This is one of a short series of free events promoted by the South East Wales Transport Alliance (SEWTA) and held by Sustrans.

It is aimed at interactively sharing knowledge and best practice between health and built environment professionals to facilitate planning for an active environment that promotes health.

This is an opportunity for peer involvement between partner organisations and local authorities, with peer review, sharing best practice and networking within a small group as key features.

Following an initial presentation on the Planet Health Cymru website, the Open Space format will be used as a way of getting full participation and reaching maximum potential for the day. It is an extension of a workshop theme aimed at problem solving and troubleshooting.

The emphasis will be on real issues faced by participants and sharing of best practice solutions. The day will achieve most through participants bringing along specific current or potential issues on the theme for problem-sharing, discussion and potential resolution through the workshop.

This is a full day event, including an opportunity for networking and reflecting on the day’s activities, and the potential to share experience with other organisations in an informal setting.

Who should attend? Health promotion professionals in the SEWTA region wanting to engage with transport and regeneration professionals on how the environment can be used to tackle sedentary lifestyles.

Also planners, architects, developers, transport planners in order to exert the maximum influence for progressive design solutions for best quality results leading to an environment that promotes physical activity and health.

We have a limited number of free spaces which we would like to offer to the most appropriate participants, who may be in-house staff. We are initially asking for two nominations from each organisation. If interested, please return the attached form with contact details, role and a proposed issue for discussion to Clare Johnson, Sustrans Cymru clare.johnson@sustrans.org.uk
