News - Pontypridd Bus Station Changes
17th June 2010
Bus operators are about to make major changes to a series of bus routes currently servicing the areas of Pontypridd and the Cynon Valley
Passengers are being advised that as of Monday June 28th 2010 some of their regular services could be affected by the changes.
Veolia Transport Cymru will be withdrawing daytime journeys on the following services:
- 13 - to The Common and Glantaf
- 14 - to the Graig and Maesycoed
- 16 - to Pantygraigwen and Penygraigwen
- 20/21 - to Buarth y Capel and Old Ynysybwl.
- 24 - to Penycoedcae
- 26/27 - to Aberdare via Perthcelyn and Fernhill
- Evening journeys on service 25 (to Fernhill and Cefnpennar) will also be withdrawn.
Other Veolia services such as 10 (Glyncoch - Pontypridd - Parc Nantgarw) and 12 (to Oaklands) will reduce in frequency whilst service X6 (Aberdare - Cardiff) will be re-numbered 600 and service 100 (Pontypridd - Royal Glamorgan Hospital) will be retimed.
At the same time, a number of other commercial bus operators in the area intend introducing replacement services during the daytime, which will ensure that these communities will continue to have links into Pontypridd.
The increased competition on some routes will lead to more journeys being provided to some areas. At those times of the day where there will be no replacement services provided by the commercial bus operators, the Council is currently examining the possibility of funding replacement services, subject to the level of resources that it has available and number of passengers that are travelling on these services.
The alterations to these services will also see changes being made to the departure points in Pontypridd Bus Station and along the Taff Vale Shopping Precinct.
There is a limit to the number of buses that can be safely accommodated in the bus station and demand has exceeded supply,
Consequently, an increasing number of services will depart from the Taff Vale Shopping Precinct bus stops.
During the run up to the changes, Bus Users UK, together with the Council and the operators are running a road show in Pontypridd to help passengers to understand where their buses will depart from.
The bus information event will be held between 10am and 3pm on Friday 25 June 2010 at the Precinct. For full timetable details, residents are advised to contact the Traveline Enquiry Service on 0871 200 22 33 or www.travelinecymru.info
