Coleg Y Cymoedd

Coleg y Cymoedd is a large further Education College with around 1000 staff and 20,000 learners. It is the product of a merger between the former Coleg Morgannwg and Ystrad Mynach College. Both colleges had separately committed to travel planning and previously achieved travel planning awards and travel grants.

With so many people travelling to and between its campuses the College is continually seeking to improve its management of travel via its travel plan.

Having identified possible actions it became obvious some investment was needed to help things along. However, like many organisations funds can be limited. Therefore, access to a travel plan grant has been a tremendous help in making changes. The former colleges have used grant money to improve cycle facilities that will encourage cyclists and potential cyclists to try a different way of travelling.

The College has also recently been successful in a grant bid to improve video links between sites that will reduce staff travelling to meetings between sites saving both time and travel costs.

David Brookes, Head of Learner Services and Travel planning coordinator, said

"The College has found the grant scheme a tremendous help in turning our travel planning ideas into action”.
